Richmond, BC – Sport BC will honour ten dedicated sport leaders from the City of Victoria on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana.
The public award ceremony, hosted at the Laurel Point Inn, celebrates the contributions of longtime community sport volunteers. Sport BC Board Chair John Alexander and Director-at-Large Irene Schell will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO of Sport BC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the ten scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2011 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Victoria:

Alison Ducharme, Patti Hunter & Kelly Mann, KidSport
Nelson Hughes, Fastball
Anne Lansdell, Athetics
Ian MacLean, Rugby
Bob Reid, Athletics
Dave Wilkie, Lacrosse
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, which begins at 6:00pm. Victoria is the first stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2011. The program will travel next to Prince George in February.
